PAPUA - The Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) Team of the National Police Headquarters arrived in Sorong, West Papua, to identify 17 bodies of victims of the Karaoke Doubel fire burning during a dispute between two groups of residents in Sorong City some time ago. These 17 victims were trapped in a karaoke place when clashes between two groups broke out.
The Head of Public Relations of the West Papua Police, Kombes Adam Erwindi, said that the clash between the two groups of residents resulted in the death of 18 people. One person died as a result of being stabbed, and 17 people died as a result of being burned in Karaoke Double0.
He said that the bodies of the 17 victims were so badly burned that they could not be identified.
"Therefore, the DVI team of the National Police Health Center went down to identify the bodies according to the names that have been obtained," he said in Sorong, Antara, Thursday, January 27.
Separately, the Head of the DVI Pusdokkes Polri Kombes Ahmad Fauzi said the identification process was carried out in four phases. The first is if the crime scene has been done.
The second phase is a postmortem examination to obtain information about the characteristics seen in the corpse. Then the third phase is the collection of antemortem data or typical physical data and characteristics of the victim before he died from the victim's family.
"And the fourth phase is the reconciliation of the data obtained from the victim's family and the physical data of the corpse obtained at the morgue," he said.
He explained that the identification process consisted of four phases, which was quite long, so the patience of the victim's family was expected. "However, we will try our best to quickly identify the bodies of the 17 victims of the conflict in Sorong," he said.
