Coordinating Minister For Political, Legal And Security Affairs Summons AGO, KPK, Police And Kemenkumham To Discuss Corruption Crime Supervision

JAKARTA - The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD summoned the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the Police, the Attorney General's Office and the Corruption Eradication Commission to discuss the Presidential Regulation regarding the implementation of supervision of corruption eradication.

In this regulation, it is stated that the KPK has the authority to take over criminal acts of corruption that are being handled by the Attorney General's Office and the Chief of Police in the context of supervision if they meet certain requirements. The President will immediately announce this Perpres to be promulgated.

"So earlier there was an agreement or common view, regarding the implementation of supervision regarding the takeover of criminal cases being handled by the Attorney General's Office and by the National Police," said Mahfud MD after holding a limited meeting with Kemenkumham, Polri, Attorney General's Office and the Corruption Eradication Commission, at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs. Wednesday, September 2.

"Special corruption cases can be taken over by the KPK, so according to law number 19 of 2019, the KPK has the authority to take over criminal acts of corruption that are currently being handled by the Attorney General's Office and the Chief of Police in the context of supervision," he continued.

Mahfud added that these conditions already exist in a separate law. Where a takeover can be carried out when there are public reports that are not followed up, there are overlaps in the handling of the perpetrators of corruption and those who are examined, and cases are protracted.

"That is already in the law and it is agreed to be part of the supervision that can be taken over by the KPK from the Attorney General's Office and from the National Police," added Mahfud MD.

Regarding the case of Joko Tjandra and Attorney Pinangki, Mahfud explained, the KPK could provide views and was also invited to attend to an expose of the case being handled.

"Kabareskrim Polri has given an example of steps taken in the form of involvement in the case title at the Police," he said.

"Now the Attorney General's Office has also been told that he is open in the framework of supervision, the KPK can be invited to attend to participate in assessing the exposure of the case being handled. Now there the KPK can state its view. Is this okay proportional or must be taken over, right? later the KPK itself can participate there, "said Mahfud.
