BANTEN - Deputy Governor of Banten Andika Hazrumy said the contribution of ulama in building community structure was very much needed, especially in the current conditions.

This was conveyed by Andika during the inauguration of the Board of Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Banten Province for the period 2021-2026 at the Banten Governor's Hall in Serang, Wednesday, January 26.

"It is clear that the MUI has a vital role in contributing to the government in the development of social order," Andika said as quoted by Antara.

The inauguration was carried out by the General Chairperson of MUI KH Miftachul Achyar at the Banten Governor's Hall and was attended by the Governor of Banten Wahidin Halim. According to Andika, the ulama also have an important role in preventing the emergence of radicalism, extremism, and terrorism in Indonesia. The reason is, this understanding can damage the joints of the nation's life.

"The task of the MUI in which there are scholars is also to protect the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia from dangers such as radicalism, extremism and terrorism at the level of understanding, of course," said Andika.

Therefore, Andika encourages the ulama to continue to increase religious moderation according to Wasathiyah Islamic principles. Andika is optimistic that moderation in religion can create peace and harmony and prevent the emergence of extremism and terrorism.

Andika said that through the fatwas issued, it is hoped that MUI can provide every portion of benefit to provide guidance for the people.

Andika said MUI brought together various Islamic religious organizations in one forum. According to him, if there is not a forum to discuss various problems of the people, it could arise.

"In this context, it is clear that MUI is the government's strategic partner," Andika said.
