Calling Cages In The House Publishes Unjustified Plans, Puan Maharani: I Strongly Condemn This, This Must Be Seriously Investigated

JAKARTA - Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, has asked the National Police to thoroughly investigate the findings of human cage cells found in the house of the inactive Langkat Regent.

"I strongly condemn the findings regarding human slavery in Langkat. This is a serious case and must be investigated immediately," said Puan in Jakarta as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, January 26.

The authorities should investigate this matter carefully. In addition, he hopes that the ranks of the National Police in all regions will monitor conditions in their respective regions to anticipate the occurrence of allegations of slavery.

"I ask the authorities, the authorities to immediately investigate this so that it does not happen again. I am sure that the Police, who are cooperating with relevant agencies, will take firm legal action when there is a criminal act," he said.

Puan also highlighted the police report that the coaching activity at the Langkat Regent's house did not have a permit even though it had been operating for 10 years.

According to him, carrying out training by confining someone in prison is not justifiable, so the case of alleged slavery by the Langkat Regent must be a lesson for all parties.

"It is necessary to understand that good intentions that violate the provisions in the end will actually give rise to big problems. So, in every action, all parties must really pay attention to the mechanisms and applicable laws," he said.

Previously, Migrant Care found a private prison behind the residence of the Regent of Langkat Terbit Planning Warin Angin, in which 40 workers were being held in private iron bars.

According to Migran Care's alleged findings, the workers allegedly did not get good treatment, such as not getting proper food, not getting the proper salary, or even not getting paid as well as ill treatment and torture of the prisoners of oil palm workers.

In its development, the North Sumatran Police have examined 11 people related to the findings of the construction site at the residence of the former Langkat Regent.

The Head of the Public Information Bureau (Karo Penmas) of the National Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Pol. Ahmad Ramadhan explained that the inspection was in the context of asking for information from a number of parties at the location where the training was held.
