Not Hesitating, Minister Of Manpower Ida Threatens To Revoke Permit And Report To Police Illegal Migrant Worker Distribution Company

JAKARTA - The Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Ida Fauziyah stated that his party did not hesitate to take firm action legally on those involved in illegal or unprocedural placement of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI).

"We will enforce the law in Indonesia. We hope that law enforcement will be carried out here. We will revoke the license for rogue P3MI. Anyone who places PMI unprocedurally will report it to the police. We accompany the victims to report it to the police," said the Minister of Manpower Ida when A Working Meeting with Commission IX of the DPR some time ago, Antara, Wednesday, January 26.

However, said the Minister of Manpower, in solving the problem of illegal PMI, law enforcement is not enough if only done in Indonesia, but also must be done in the country of placement.

He also stated that he had encouraged placement countries to take action against employers or agencies.

"For example, in the placement country of Malaysia. This should not be a gap for employers or agencies in Malaysia to ignore illegal placements. In fact, the most important thing is how the law is enforced in the placement country," he said.

According to him, unprocedural PMI continues to occur because the PMI is accepted and employed. For this reason, the government in the country of placement must also punish the employer or agency.

"Alhamdulillah, there is an agreement with the Malaysian minister of KSM regarding this. In Indonesia it is guarded by us, in Malaysia it is also guarded by the Minister of KSM. We also ask that the Malaysian Minister of Home Affairs also guard it," he said.

In addition to the Malaysian Government, his party also encourages the Government of Saudi Arabia and other PMI placement countries. He urged the Government of Saudi Arabia not to grant pilgrimage or visit visas to PMI.

"We really ask that pilgrimage visas are the source of unprocedural placements. Those with pilgrimage visas, visit visas convert into worker visas. This makes it difficult to collect data, monitor and foster unprocedural placements," he said again.
