Responding To Digital Developments, Erick Thohir Asks Telkomsel To Lyrics For NFT And Metaverse Business
JAKARTA - Young people are starting to look at the Non-Fungible Token (NFT) and Metaverse in Indonesia. Responding to digital developments, SOE Minister Erick Thohir asked PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk and Telkomsel to look into this business.
Erick admitted that he had divided the tasks and focus between Telkom and Telkomsel. Erick said, Telkom will focus on digital and B to B infrastructure such as tower construction, data center to cloud.
"Well, we will also encourage Telkom to start seeing opportunities to consolidate data centers so that they can be like Mitratel to be able to move more massively and bigger," he said in a Working Meeting with Commission VI DPR, Tuesday, January 25.
Then, said Erick, Telkomsel will focus on B to C as a digital company or digital companies such as Metaverse, Game Finance (GameFi) and sectors that are closer to customers.
"Because we have to balance the growth compared to the creators who now exist in young people in Indonesia, but the results are different again," he said.
Responding to the development of the digital worldNot only that, said Erick, seeing the development of the digital world with all its challenges, it is also necessary to anticipate it. Currently, from the consumer side, the trend is NFT. Where creators will benefit from their work.
"What about NFT itself? If in the past, in terms of paintings, for example in Indonesia, if it was sold first, it would make a profit, but secondly, thirdly, and so on.
Erick said that his party continues to encourage Telkom and Telkomsel to transform and change in response to digital developments.
"Telkom and Telkomsel, which we have encouraged from the start, must change to metamorphose into what is happening in the world today," he said.
According to Erick, this is an absolute must, especially since Indonesia has the potential for a population of young people to increase in the next few years.
"If we don't talk about natural resources that are downstream, but we forget to protect our market, which is now massive digital economic growth, from human resources itself, in the end, there are more young people. Like it or not, they will move to different industries," he said.
