Spread Of COVID-19 In Batam, A Total Of 23 New Cases Spread In 6 Main Island Districts

BATAM - The spread of COVID-19 in Batam City, Riau Islands, is expanding with the increase in the number of residents exposed to COVID in six sub-districts of the main island.

Batam Mayor Muhammad Rudi stated, there were 23 active cases of COVID-19 after five people were declared exposed last Tuesday.

"There is an addition of COVID-19, now there are 23 active cases," Muhammad said in Batam as reported by Antara, Tuesday, January 25.

Separately, the Head of the Batam City Health Office, Didi Kusmarjadi, stated that generally, additional COVID-19 cases were detected during inspections for travel purposes. "Generally the results of screening for travel," he said.

Of the 23 people who have been confirmed positive for COVID-19, 11 of them are in self-isolation at the Batam Hajj Dormitory, five are self-isolating, six are being treated at the Galang Hospital, and one is at Embung Fatimah Hospital.

Residents who were positive for COVID-19 were spread across six sub-districts of the main island, namely Lubukbaja, Batuampar, Bengkong, Nongsa, Batam City, and Sagulung. Making only three sub-districts still green, namely Sekupang, Batuaji, and Seibeduk. Meanwhile, the three sub-districts of the buffer island still have zero cases.

That way, cumulatively as of today, as many as 25,879 people are positive for COVID-19, 25,014 people have completed isolation, 842 people have died, and 23 are active cases. The cure rate is 96.66 percent, the death rate is 3.25 percent, and active cases are 0.09 percent.

Meanwhile, in his statement, the Task Force said that out of 842 cases of death in Batam, 433 of them were without comorbidities, and 409 others with comorbidities.

The highest comorbid diseases in COVID-19 deaths were diabetes mellitus as many as 216 cases, hypertension as many as 182 cases, and pneumonia as many as 104 cases.
