National Police Chief Meets Malaysian Police Chief, Discusses Illegal PMI To Handling COVID-19
JAKARTA - The National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo met with the Chief of the Malaysian Police (Inspector General of Police) Tan Sri Acryl Sani bin Abdullah Sani.
During the meeting, the two discussed various issues, one of which was related to Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI).
The meeting between the National Police Chief and the Malaysian Police Chief took place at the National Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, Tuesday, January 25.
"Especially here some time ago, we also faced the issue of illegal immigrants who came in there and smuggled in. If we look at the data, it is almost every day and this would be very good if it went through legal channels," Sigit said at the meeting, quoted from a written statement. Problems regarding PMI are important to be discussed in order to get a solution immediately. Moreover, the solution also requires synergy, communication and coordination between the two state institutions.
That way, in the future there will be no more cases that will arise related to losses suffered by Indonesian citizens in Malaysia.

Therefore, Sigit emphasized to the Malaysian Police Chief to cooperate with each other in the monitoring process.
"We want all those who work outside, we can follow the development. If then something is easier to coordinate," he said.
Not only discussing PMI issues, General Sigit also had time to exchange ideas about handling and controlling COVID-19 in their respective countries. Especially about anticipating the spread of the Omicron variant.
In front of the Malaysian Police Chief, the National Police Chief explained the participation of the Indonesian government, TNI-Polri, and all elements of society who work hand in hand and play an active role in handling the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia.
"Together with the government and other related parties, doctors from the TNI and Polri were also deployed to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. We peaked the COVID-19 pandemic in 7 months ago," said Sigit.
