Crypto Polkadot (DOT) Will Become FC Barcelona's Official Sponsor, Replace Rakuten?

JAKARTA – The top football club of the Spanish league, FC Barcelona will determine Polkadot (DOT) and Spotify to be the new sponsors that will be displayed on its official jersey. FC Barcelona has a great opportunity to form a partnership with the Polkadot blockchain protocol as reported by Cryptopotato.

Until now, the official sponsor of FC Barcelona is still held by Rakuten, an e-commerce company from Japan. Rakuten's partnership with FC Barcelona will end in July 2022. The Catalan football club is rumored to be signing a new deal with a new company.

In recent announcements, one of the options is Polkadot, a blockchain network that was founded in 2016 and DOT has become the center of attention of various circles in the past year.

FC Barcelona calls Polkadot a platform that allows "a high number of transactions in seconds." More specifically, the project can run 1,000 TPS transactions and if it is fully operational, it is claimed that it will be able to handle 1,000,000 transactions per second.

Another potential sponsor of FC Barcelona, namely the music streaming service platform Spotify, also has the opportunity to become a sponsor. However, the club said it would thoroughly examine options and select a sponsor to support the club's long-term strategy.

"The club has decided to take things patiently to thoroughly analyze each proposal in the procurement to reach the most profitable deal in the long term."

A few months ago, FC Barcelona has formed a partnership with the NFT marketplace Ownix. The partnership is aimed at releasing the NFT collection for its fans. Not long after, FC Barcelona canceled the partnership because Moshe Hogeg (who was linked to Ownix) was arrested for a number of offenses such as fraud and sexual assault.

The reason why blockchain protocols are getting a lot of attention is because of the innovative parachain approach. Simply put, this feature allows the connection of different blockchains to each other. It also allows users to build blockchains with their Substrate framework and bridge the Polkadot network with other projects such as Ethereum and Bitcoin.

In November last year, the team behind the protocol launched its first Parachain Auction slot. It relies on the Kusama network to test the concept at length.

Earlier this month, smart-contract platform Moonbeam became the first fully operational parachain on Polkadot. It plans to bring several new integrations, activities and users to enhance the Polkadot ecosystem and contribute to the growth of the network.
