19 People Died After Bloody Clashes In Sorong, West Papua, Police Promise To Reveal Intellectual Actors

JAKARTA - As many as 19 people died as a result of the bloody clashes between two groups that broke out in Lawuyuk Village, East Sorong District, West Papua, Monday, January 24 yesterday.

One person died as a result of group clashes, while the remaining 18 were caused by the burning of a cafe.

Karo Penmas, Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan, said the current situation was under control. The authorities have embraced a number of traditional and religious leaders to prevent further actions.

"The West Papuan Police have held a meeting with representatives of the two warring groups. The aim is to prevent and not take any action so that it does not spread again. The West Papuan Police have managed to control the situation," explained Ramadhan at the National Police Headquarters, Jakarta, Tuesday, January 25.

Ramadhan asked the public to entrust the investigation of this case to the authorities. Because the process of processing the crime scene, the examination of witnesses is still ongoing. The public is urged to exercise restraint.
