JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said that halal labeling of products is important because it ensures that the goods are of high quality and safe for consumption in accordance with Islamic law.
"The halal label is important to give confidence that product quality is guaranteed to be safe and in accordance with the Shari'a, halalan thoyyiban while at the same time adding value to product competitiveness," said Ma'ruf from the vice president's official residence in Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, January 25.
Public awareness is currently also increasing to use products labeled halal. In fact, the Vice President continued, the halal label has become part of the lifestyle of today's society. "People's awareness to consume halal products is increasing, it has even become part of their lifestyle," he said.
The vice president also appreciated the role of the Indonesian Ulema Council (LPPOM-MUI) Food, Drug and Cosmetics Assessment Institute in organizing the Free Halal Certification (Sehati) program, which scored 644 Micro and Small Businesses (UMK) with halal certificates.
The vice president also supports the efforts made by LPPOM-MUI in accelerating the implementation of halal certification in the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, through the Modified On-Site Audit (MOSA) system.
"This is an online halal certification service, especially for products that are simple and do not have a high halal critical level," he explained.
Therefore, the Vice President hopes that LPPOM-MUI, which is spread across 34 provinces and several foreign countries, will continue to be at the forefront of developing the halal product industry to achieve Indonesia's goal as the center of the world halal product industry.
"The presence of LPPOM-MUI representatives abroad, such as China, Korea and Taiwan, also further strengthens Indonesia's existence as part of the global halal industry supply chain," said the Vice President.
