Sentenced To 4.5 Years In Prison, Gaga Muhammad Files An Appeal

JAKARTA - Gaga Muhammad has filed an appeal against a sentence of 4.5 years in prison in a criminal act of negligence in driving which resulted in Laura Anna suffering from paralysis.

Head of Public Relations of the East Jakarta District Court, Alex Adam Faisal, said that the decision to file an appeal was conveyed directly by Gaga Muhammad's legal team.

"Appeal. The defendant through his PH (legal advisor) has declared an appeal today," said Alex Adam Faisal, quoted by Antara, Monday, January 24.

Alex explained that Gaga Muhammad's party did not accept the decision of the East Jakarta District Court (Jaktim) in the subject of the appeal.

"They (Gaga and her legal advisor) filed a memorandum of appeal which basically did not accept the East Jakarta District Court judge's decision," said Alex.

Previously, Gaga Muhammad was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison in a court decision that was held on Wednesday (19/1). The panel of judges at the East Jakarta District Court (PN) found Gaga guilty in the case of negligence in driving which resulted in Laura Anna suffering from paralysis.

He was proven to have violated Article 310 paragraph 3 of Law No. 22 of 2009 concerning Road Traffic and Transportation for driving a car under the influence of alcohol.

"Impointing Gaung Sabda Alam Muhammad to imprisonment for four years and six months and a fine of Rp. 10 million," said Lingga Setiawan as Chair of the Panel of Judges when reading the verdict.

Gaga and the new team of legal counsel have officially filed an appeal because at the court's verdict Wednesday, January 19, they were still thinking about taking legal action.

Because Gaga has filed an appeal, the case of negligence in driving which resulted in Laura Anna being paralyzed will go to the DKI Jakarta High Court (PT) level.
