Menkominfo Tancap Gas Immediately Pass The PDP Bill
JAKARTA - The Minister of Communication and Information, Johnny G Plate, emphasized that the Personal Data Protection Bill (RUU PDP) should be passed immediately. Given the various hacking incidents and cyber attacks that have become increasingly massive in the last few months.
Johnny also said that the unauthorized use of Indonesian people's personal data is increasingly common. In addition to the readiness of the government to build infrastructure related to data center management in Indonesia.
"These all further strengthen the need for personal data protection. The government hopes to work together with the DPR RI to immediately step on the gas to complete the Personal Data Protection Bill and get joint approval between the Government and the Indonesian Parliament, "said Johnny at the House Commission I Working Meeting, Tuesday, September 1, 2020.
As is known lately, hacking cases often occur. The leak of 91 million Tokopedia user accounts, until the last one was the hacking of KreditPlus' fintech data. Some of this data is even traded on internet forums.
Therefore, the need for personal data protection of the Indonesian people is getting tighter, because the protection of data owners requires a very strong legal basis.
In addition, Johnny also emphasized the need for the ratification of the PDP Bill as primary legislation in order to support data processing between countries, both at the global level and in the ASEAN regional environment. No exception, as a form of state presence in ensuring the public's sense of security in using various internet application platforms.
"Policies of friendly countries require that there is an adequate level of protection for the processing of personal data between countries. It also guarantees the public a sense of security in using the internet, "said Johnny.
The same thing was also conveyed by cyber security observer Alfons Tanujaya, he demanded that the government immediately pass the PDP Bill. Because this makes it easier for law enforcers to follow up on misuse of data by irresponsible parties.
"With the PDP Bill, it will be an easier basis for law enforcers, because there are clear benchmarks for the public and law enforcers in following up on data misuse," Alfons told VOI.
Therefore, Alfons continued, the public would know what the risks were and the penalties if they violated the rules in the law. "Law enforcers have clear guidelines in following up on violations that exploit data," said Alfons.
