The Bank's Business Is Brighter, New Loans Continue To Increase

JAKARTA – Bank Indonesia revealed that based on the survey results, it was found that on a quarterly basis (quarter-to-quarter/qtq) new credit growth in the fourth quarter of 2021 increased compared to the previous period.

Head of the Communications Department (BI) Erwin Haryono said that this was reflected in the weighted net balance (WNB) of new loan requests of 87.0 percent, higher than the previous quarter's WNB of 20.9 percent.

“Growth in new lending is indicated for all types of usage, as reflected in the positive SBT value. In the first quarter of 2022, new credit growth is estimated to slow down, as indicated by the WNB forecast for new lending at 52.0 percent," he said in a press statement quoted on Sunday, January 23.

Erwin added that credit distribution standards in the first quarter of 2022 are expected to be slightly tighter than the previous period. This is indicated by the Lending Standard Index (ILS) of 3.4 percent, higher than 2.6 percent in the previous quarter.

Erwin said this condition was influenced by estimates of an increase in loan interest rates by several banks.

"The survey results show that respondents remain optimistic about future credit growth," he said.

For information, respondents estimate credit growth in 2022 at 8.7 percent, an increase compared to growth in 2021 at 5.2 percent.

"This optimism is driven, among other things, by monetary and economic conditions, as well as the relatively controlled risk of lending," concluded Erwin.
