Urge For Investigation Of Dahlan's Arterial Plate Law Violations, IPW: Police Can't Be Silent, Can't Be Afraid
JAKARTA - Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) asked the National Police to investigate violations of the law in the use of special police plates on a number of vehicles belonging to Arteria Dahlan.
"The police must not be silent, they must be investigated for this violation of the law. They must not be afraid to investigate this," said IPW Chair Sugeng Teguh Santoso, quoted by Antara, Friday, January 21.
Sugeng said that each vehicle's license plate must have a differentiator. Numbers can be the same but there is a difference in letters or something else.
"If they are exactly the same, then there is an assumption that one of them is fake," he said.
According to him, the use of one plate on several vehicles is a violation of the law. The user is a member of the legislature, apart from the alleged criminal offense of forgery, it is also an ethical violation that must be examined at the Council's Honorary Court (MKD).
"The police must not be silent, they must be investigated for this violation of the law. They must not be afraid to investigate this. If it also involves police officers, they must be investigated and dealt with," he said.
Sugeng said that violation of the law could be subject to Article 263 Jo. Article 266 of the Criminal Code carries a sentence of six years and Article 280 Jo. 288 Law No. 22 of 2009 concerning Traffic, the threat of two months.
"The National Police must investigate so that the principle of 'equality before the law' applies," said Sugeng.
Regarding the use of special police numbers for vehicle owners other than members of the National Police, Sugeng said that the registration number for Police official cars remains for service.
"What is given to civilians, including members of the DPR RI, are special numbers with the letters RF, which are allowed by paying official income to the state treasury as PNBP," he said.
Sugeng added that related to this case, IPW noted that the behavior of DPR RI members who duplicated the same number plates for five cars was a disgraceful act.
