Spotted Prying Mosque Charity Box, Residents In Banyuwangi Beaten By Residents
BANYUWANGI - A theft recidivist has made a comeback by stealing a charity box at the Darul Hidayah Mosque, Umbulrejo Hamlet, Bagorejo Village, Srono District, Banyuwangi, East Java.
The perpetrator, Dwi Rubiyanto (37) was beaten by residents for his actions. Fortunately, the perpetrator was immediately arrested by the police.
Srono Police Chief AKP Junaidi said the theft occurred at 01.30 WIB, Thursday, January 20. The perpetrator had already planned the action. The perpetrators deliberately wore clothes like people going to pray to trick the residents.
"The suspect left his house at around 00.00 WIB on a motorbike. The suspect then headed to the Srono sub-district, intending to find a target for the charity box in the mosque to be stolen," Junaidi said, Friday, January 21.
Right when passing in front of the Darul Hidayah Mosque, the suspect saw a large charity box placed on the terrace of the mosque. The suspect approached him.
"Feeling quiet, the suspect broke the padlock that tied the charity box. Then he took the charity box to the ablution area and then pryed it with a screwdriver," he said.
When prying a charity box, his actions are known to residents. The thief then shouted at the thief until he was finally beaten by the residents.
Residents then reported the incident to the local police. The Criminal Investigation Unit team and the Srono Police Intelligence and Security Unit who were on duty at that time immediately went to the scene.
"We immediately brought the suspect along with the evidence to the Srono Police Headquarters for further processing," he concluded
Based on the results of the development, he continued, the perpetrator was a recidivist who had committed the crime of theft twice. The perpetrators have also received decisions from the Banyuwangi District Court in 2013 and 2014.
"To account for his actions, the perpetrators are suspected of Article 363 paragraphs 1 to 3e and 5e of the Criminal Code concerning the Crime of Theft with Weights," he said.
