Bank Indonesia Hacked By Conti Ransomware Gang, This Is The Ministry Of Communication And Information's Response!

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) has finally responded to the hype of hacking by the Conti ransomware gang, which made Bank Indonesia (BI) a victim.

"The Ministry of Communication and Informatics appreciates Bank Indonesia's steps in coordinating with the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) to carry out verification, recovery, auditing and mitigation efforts for the BI electronic system," said Ministry of Communications and Informatics Spokesperson Dedy Permadi in an official statement quoted by VOI, Friday. , January 21.

In addition, Dedy said the Kemenkominfo also highlighted the Electronic System Operators (PSE) who experienced security problems, to immediately coordinate with the BSSN.

"BSSN as an institution authorized to recommend the implementation of cyber security techniques, implement cyber technical provisions, as well as other related authorities regulated by laws and regulations," said Dedy.

Dedy also emphasized that the Kemenkominfo will continue to monitor PSE, in order to protect the personal data they manage.

"In accordance with the mandate of the laws and regulations, PSE will continue to monitor the commitment and seriousness of PSE in protecting the personal data it manages, taking into account the feasibility and reliability of the personal data processing system from the aspect of technology, governance, and human resources," said Dedy.

As previously reported, the Bank Indonesia system at the Bengkulu branch has become an easy target for ransomware hacks carried out by Conti, a Russian hacker group under the pseudonym Wizard Spider, and is called the most violent of the other groups.

The news was first obtained from the upload of a Dark Web security researcher known as Dark Tracer, on his Twitter account @darktracer_int.

Along with his tweet, @darktracer_int also shared a screenshot of the site claimed to be the dark web belonging to the Conti ransomware gang.

Various file views are visible and named corp.bi.go.id. In the upload, it is stated that the total data reached 487.09 MB with as many as 838 files obtained by them. The entire data is claimed to have been taken from an open server owned by Bank Indonesia, namely www.bi.go.id. Now all Bank Indonesia systems that were affected by the hack have gradually recovered.
