PRSI Aims For The 2022 Asian Games In Hangzhou After Water Polo Is Not Contested At The Hanoi SEA Games
JAKARTA - The absence of water polo at the Hanoi SEA Games this year has made PB PRSI change their target to the multi-event Asian Games Hangzhou 2022.
Facing this target, PRSI also made their initial preparations by holding a national selection for men's water polo. This selection will take place at the Gelora Bung Karno Aquatic Stadium, Jakarta, 20-22 January 2022.
“The water polo sport is not contested (at the SEA Games). We are preparing for the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou," said Water Polo Technical Committee Dean Baldwin, quoted by Antara.
The national selection was attended by 49 of the best athletes from all over Indonesia. They came from Jambi, South Sumatra, DKI Jakarta, West Java, East Java, Yogyakarta, East Kalimantan, South Sulawesi and Papua.
The material for the national selection was given by coach Milos Sakovich who is currently still in Serbia. This selection material includes swimming tests, games, and also techniques with the ball.
PRSI will select 26 athletes from this national selection. This number will later be reduced to 18 athletes who will take part in the try out to Serbia starting in February.
PRSI made early preparations because the competition for water policing in Asia is very tight.
At the 2018 Asian Games, the Indonesian men's water polo team had to settle for being in eighth place after being bent in the last match by Saudi Arabia.
