Not On Koeman's Plan, Rakitic Returns To Seville
JAKARTA - Ivan Rakitic is certainly not included in the plans of Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman for next season. He will leave Barca and return to his former club Sevilla.
The midfielder, who joined Barca from Sevilla in 2014, still has one year on his contract at the Camp Nou. Some sources have told ESPN that Rakitic's agent has agreed terms for a move from Barca and will join Sevilla for a lower fee.
The 32-year-old has played 310 times for Barca during his six years there, contributing to 13 trophies even though his involvement was reduced last season.
Rakitic underwent a medical in Barcelona Monday morning and is not expected to take part in the Koeman era's first training.
The Croatian will sign a two-year contract at Sevilla, the sources told ESPN reported by Antara, Tuesday, September 1.
Rakitic never hid his desire to return to the city of Seville from which his wife came. The Croatian played three seasons at Sevila between 2011 and 2014.
His arrival at Sevilla will fill the position left by Ever Banega, who left the Europa League champions for Al Shabab in Saudi Arabia.
