Herry Wirawan Regrets Raping 13 Female Students, Asks For A Reduced Sentence
BANDUNG - Head of the Legal Information Section of the West Java High Prosecutor's Office, Dodi Gazali Emil, said that the defendant in the case of raping 13 female students, Herry Wirawan, said he was sorry.
This was conveyed by Herry Wirawan when reading the memorandum of defense to the Bandung District Court Judges. Some of the hearings were held behind closed doors.
"As short as I can know. The person concerned is sorry, then apologizes to all the victims and their families and other parties," said Dodi in Bandung, West Java, quoted by Antara, Thursday, January 20.
In addition to regret, Dodi said Herry also asked the panel of judges to reduce the sentence from what was demanded by the prosecutor. He revealed that Herry Wirawan's memorandum of defense was written on two pieces of paper.
"He asked for a reduced sentence, that's what we got," said Dodi.
By submitting the memorandum of defense, Dodi said the prosecutor's office would also submit a response on January 27, 2022 in the agenda of the replica trial.
Previously, the defendant in the rape case against 13 female students, Herry Wirawan (36) was demanded the death penalty by the prosecutor from the West Java High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati).
West Java Attorney General's Office Head Asep N Mulyana said the demand for the death penalty was given to Herry Wirawan for his immoral acts that caused the victims to experience pregnancy, which was considered a very serious crime.
"We first charge the defendant with the death penalty. As evidence, as our commitment to provide a deterrent effect to the perpetrators," said Asep.
In addition to the death penalty, Herry is also required to be sentenced to chemical castration. Then Herry was also demanded to pay a fine of Rp. 500 million and also demanded to pay restitution to the victims of Rp. 331 million.
Herry was charged with guilt in accordance with Article 81 paragraph (1), paragraph (3) and (5) in conjunction with Article 76D of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 17 of 2016 concerning Amendments to Law Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection in conjunction with Article 65 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code as the first indictment.
