Rangnick Sends A Touching Message To Ronaldo Who Is Sulking On The Bench
JAKARTA - Manchester United coach, Ralf Rangnick, delivered a touching message to Cristiano Ronaldo, who was sulking on the bench during the match against Brentford, Thursday, January 20.
In the match at the Brentford Stadium, Ronaldo looked unhappy when Rangnick pulled him off in the 71st minute and was replaced by Harry Maguire. At that time Man United won 2-0 over Brentford.
In addition to showing a disappointed look when pulled off the field, the player nicknamed CR7 was also caught slamming the team's jacket on the MU bench.
Quoted from Metro, Rangnick said he had no problem with Ronaldo. He also gave a message to the Portugal captain when the two sat side by side.
"When we scored the third goal I said that to him. I said, 'look, Cristiano, I understand that you are still ambitious and you want to score your own goals,' said Rangnick.
"Maybe in a few years when you're a head coach yourself and hopefully you'll take the same decision, to be in the same role as me today after 75 minutes," Rangnick added.
Furthermore, the German coach predicts that Ronaldo is not happy when he is replaced. However Rangnick is aware of the character of players like Ronaldo.
"As I said, what I realized is exactly what happened. I didn't expect him to hug me after being substituted," Rangnick said.
"I know how the goalscoring players think and how they work, but I have to make decisions in the interest of the team and the club. This is exactly what I told him," Rangnick continued.
Apart from that incident, Manchester United won 3-1 over Brentford through goals from Anthony Elanga, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford. While Brentford replied through Ivan Toney's goal.
However, the victory over Brentford has not been able to change MU's position in the 2021/2022 Premier League standings. Currently the Red Devils are still in seventh place with 35 points.
