5 TNI Personnel, Yon Zipur, Shot By An Armed Group In West Papua's Maybrat, 1 Person Died

PAPUA - A member of the Indonesian Army has reportedly died in an armed group attack between Fankario Village and Kamat Village, East Aifat District, Maybrat Regency, West Papua, Thursday, January 20 this morning.

Head of Information for Kodam (Kapendam) XVIII Kasuari Colonel Arm Hendra Pesireron confirmed this. The shooting incident occurred at around 07.00 WIT when five members of the Indonesian Army Yon Zipur 20 PPA crossed the East Aifat District, Maybrat.

"It is true that there was an attack by an armed group against five members of the Indonesian Army in the vicinity of the East Aifat District, Maybrat," said Kapendam as quoted by Antara, Thursday afternoon.

He said that while it was suspected that the attack was carried out by an armed group, until now, data collection, information, and evacuating victims are still being carried out.

"The victims of the TNI AD members have been evacuated, we are still gathering materials and information for the next steps," said Kapendam.
