Gerindra Consider Bobby-Dahnil's Duet In Medan Regional Election

JAKARTA - The 2020 Medan regional head election (Pilkada) became interesting after President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) son-in-law, Bobby Nasution decided to run as a candidate for mayor. In order to get a smooth road, Bobby has also visited other political parties to get support.

Yesterday, Bobby reportedly visited the residence of Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Subianto. The meeting was a political communication for the Medan Pilwakot.

Even so, Prabowo has not yet spoken of giving his blessing or not, Gerindra brought Bobby to Medan. This former Kopassus Danjen, only asked Bobby to communicate with other parties in Medan.

Besides the news of Bobby trying to get Prabowo's blessing for Gerindra's support for him in Medan, it turns out that Prabowo's spokesperson, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, is also rumored to be advancing in the 2020 Medan Pilkada.

Gerindra Spokesperson, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said, in politics, visits to the general chairperson of political parties to get blessings are common. That is also what Bobby Nasution did. Prabowo also gave a message to Bobby.

"First is communication to all political parties in their respective regions, getting as much support as possible by political parties. Second, if you want to advance in the Pilkada you have to win, that's all," said Dasco, at the DPR Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, December 30th.

When asked whether Gerindra would provide support to Bobby, Dasco explained that his party would only issue recommendations in early 2020.

"Official Gerindra will only be at the stage, at the end of January it will start issuing recommendations gradually throughout Indonesia. So, only later will it be decided," he said.

However, Dasco admitted, it was possible that if Dahnil decided to advance in the 2020 Medan Pilkada, he would be juxtaposed with Bobby Nasution.

"We have not decided whether our cadres will advance to number one or number two. That will be discussed in detail later," he said.

Dahnil waiting for Prabowo's blessing

Spokesperson for Gerindra Party Chairman Prabowo Subianto, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, is honored that many support him to advance in the 2020 Medan Pilkada.

However, Dahnil has not yet decided whether to run or not in the 2020 Pilkada. Dahnil admitted that he would only advance through the Gerindra Party and on orders from Prabowo Subianto.

In addition, another consideration that Dahnil has not decided to go forward in the 2020 Pilkada is quite a solid task, namely being Prabowo's spokesman as well as the Special Staff of the Minister of Defense.

Until now, Dahnil admitted that he had not received instructions from Prabowo to run as a candidate for mayor of Medan or remain as Special Staff to the Minister of Defense.

"Until now, he has not given instructions whether to continue as regional head in Medan City or continue to accompany him as the Special Staff of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia," said Dahnil.
