Selling Confiscated Drugs, 2 Policemen In Tanjungbalai Demand The Death Penalty

MEDAN - Two police officers in Tanjungbalai, North Sumatra, Tuharno and Waryono, are being charged with the death penalty. Prosecutors believe that both of them are guilty of being involved in setting aside confiscated narcotics for sale.

This demand was conveyed by the Public Prosecutor (JPU) in a trial, Wednesday, January 19, at the Tanjungbalai District Court (PN), North Sumatra.

Kajari Tanjung Balai, through Kasi Intel Dedy Saragih in his statement said that the defendant Tuharno was proven to have violated Article 114 paragraph 2 of the Republic of Indonesia Law no. 35 of 2009 in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph 1 of the 1st Criminal Code and Article 137 letter b of the Republic of Indonesia Law no. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics in conjunction with Article 65 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code. Third, Article 137 letter a of the Republic of Indonesia Law no. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics in conjunction with Article 65 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.

"Against the accused, Tuharno, the Prosecutor demands the death penalty," said Dedy, Wednesday, January 19.

Similar to Tuharno, the defendant Waryono also according to the Prosecutor violated Article 114 paragraph 2 of Law No. RI. 35 of 2009 in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code and secondly Article 137 letter a of the Republic of Indonesia Law no. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics in conjunction with Article 65 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.

"Against the defendant Waryono the Public Prosecutor handed down the death penalty," he said.

Dedy added, in addition to demanding the 2 defendants with the death penalty, the Public Prosecutor also demanded 9 other defendants with life imprisonment.

"These include Syahril Napitupulu, Agung Sugiarto Putra, Hendra Tua Harahap, Kuntoro, Agus Ramadhan Tanjung, Josua Samaoso Lahagu, Rizki Ardiansyah, Khoiruddin, Leonardo Aritonang, all of whom are sentenced to life imprisonment," he continued.

Meanwhile, another defendant named Hendra, the Prosecutor demanded 15 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 1 billion, subsidiary of 6 months in prison.

Dedy said that the next trial of the case is planned to be held on January 26.

"With the agenda of the defense or plea from the defendants," he said.
