Mayor Of Tangerang Says JORR II Toll Road Construction Causes Floods In Benda District
TANGERANG - A total of 827 families (KK) were affected by flooding in Benda District, Tangerang City. The water level reaches 60 centimeters.
Tangerang Mayor Arief R Wismansyah said the cause of the flooding was because the condition of the channel under the JORR II toll road was inadequate to accommodate the water discharge.
"Behind this sub-district the number is more or less, (approximately) there are 477 families affected. Then in Belendung Village, there are 2 RTs with 50 families affected, and the helmsman has 300 families. The total is 827 families," said Arief to reporters, Wednesday, January 19.
Arief explained, there are kelurahan that are heavily affected by the JORR II Toll road activity. The village is the Driver, in the Rawa Bamba area. This is because the area has never been affected by flooding before the construction of the toll road.
“All toll roads are dumped into community settlements. Instead of being separated, this becomes a channel to the community. So it's flooding here," he said.
"Because there was never a flood before. Since the toll roads have existed for several years, they have been dug up and the channels have not been controlled, so they have been affected as high as 60 centimeters," he continued.
On his occasion, Arief added that currently there are 29 families who have been evacuated to the post that has been established by the Tangerang City Government (Pemkot). Dozens of families, he continued, from one village in the Benda area.
"In Benda Kelurahan there are 29 families, they were evacuated. They were evacuated to the post that was established," he said.
He said his party would coordinate with toll managers and the Ministry of Public Works (PU), regarding the flood. He emphasized that during construction, the toll road manager should have prepared an environmental impact analysis.
"So they have to repair these channels so they don't harm the surrounding community," he said
In fact, this development is how to improve the quality of welfare in those around us. This actually worsens the environmental conditions around us," he continued.
Arief hopes that in the near future there will be action from the toll road manager and the Ministry of Public Works, so that the flood problem can be overcome. He also emphasized that his party had added a pump to suck up the water discharge.
"We add pumps, we suck everything faster. Hopefully after we add pumps we can speed things up. The disposal conditions are also still limited," he concluded.
Previously, it was reported that overflowing water from the channel under the Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) entered residential areas in Benda District, Tangerang City, Banten Province.
"Yesterday morning it rained with high intensity, then in the afternoon a number of areas experienced inundation due to overflowing water that did not flow into the provided channel. The crossing path of the water channel was blocked," said Benda Sub-district Head Achmad Suhaely when contacted from Tangerang, Wednesday, January 19.
