Sarpan, Witness Of Murder Persecuted By Police In Medan Withdraw Report

JAKARTA - Sarpan (57), a witness to a murder that was assaulted by police at the Percut Sei Tuan Police, Medan, retracted the report. Sarpan previously complained about the abuse he experienced while detained at the Police Headquarters.

"As of today, reports are withdrawn at Polrestabes (Medan)," said the Head of Percut Sei Tuan, AKP Ricky Pripurna Atmaja, when contacted by VOI, Monday, August 31.

Ricky admitted that he did not know anything about the compensation that Sarpan received after withdrawing the police report. With the withdrawal of the report, Ricky said the alleged criminal case against Sarpan could be stopped.

"That one (the police) has already had a disciplinary hearing. In my opinion, the criminal report can be withdrawn, "Ricky continued.

Sarpan was tortured when he was a key witness to the murder of Dodi Sumanto (40), Thursday, July 2. Sumanto was allegedly killed by the son of the owner of the house with the initials A where they worked renovating the house.

The police said in a press statement on Thursday, July 9 that A killed Sumanto by hitting the back of the head with a hoe. Two strokes killed Sumanto.

From this incident, the police took Sarpan to the Percut Sei Tuan Police. Sarpan was detained for 5 days and was tortured by the police.

Six personnel from the Percut Sei Tuan Police also underwent a disciplinary hearing. In addition, Kompol Otniel Siahaan was removed from the position of Kapolsek Percut Sei Tuan.
