A New Operation To Protect Papua From KKB Terror Appears

JAKARTA - The National Police stated that there were two Ops formed to secure Papua from the Armed Criminal Group (KKB). The two ops were Damai Cartenz Operation and Rasaka Cartenz Operation.

"About the Damai Cartenz Ops and Rasaka Cartenz. These two ops were held simultaneously, not alternately", said Police Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan, to reporters on Wednesday, January 19.

Damai Cartenz Operation will run from January 17 to December 31, 2022. Meanwhile, Operation Rasaka Cartenz will be on duty on February 3.

Although these two Ops have the same function, namely securing the land of Papua, there are some differences. Starting from the personnel to the way of working.

The first difference is in the personnel. Damai Cartenz Operation consisted of 1,925 joint TNI-Police personnel. Meanwhile, the Rasaka Cartenz Operation was filled by personnel within the Papuan Police.

The second difference is territorial duties. Which, Damai Cartenz Operation is responsible for five districts in Papua. Meanwhile, Rasaka Cartenz Operation is responsible for 23 areas of Papua.

"The Cartenz Peace Operation is an ops area in five Police Resort. The areas are the Bintang Mountains Regency, Yahukimo Regency, Nduga, Intan Jaya Regency, Puncak Ilaga Regency. Why this area?", said Ramadan.

"While the Rasaka Operation there are 23 Police Resort areas. There is 1 Police Resort whose jurisdiction is two districts. Outside the five areas, that's the difference", he continued.

The last difference is in the pattern of duty. Damai Cartenz Operation has an enforcement task force. Meanwhile, Rasaka Cartenz Operation does not have it.

"So Ops (Peace Cartenz) which is supported by the Law Enforcement task force as a supporter is not put forward. If there is a security disturbance by the KKB, the Law Enforcement task force will move. Meanwhile, Rasaka Ops is only supported by persuasive and preemptive means without a Law Enforcement task force", said Ramadhan.
