Heru Hidayat Sentenced To Nothing In The Asabri Corruption Case, Lower Than Prosecutors' Demands
JAKARTA - The panel of judges at the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court handed down a null verdict against the defendant in the alleged corruption case of PT Asabri, Heru Hidayat. This verdict was given because Heru had been given the maximum sentence in other cases.
"Therefore, the defendant was sentenced to zero," said IG presiding judge Eko Purwanto during the trial, Tuesday, January 18.
The verdict was given because Heru Hidayat had been sentenced to life imprisonment in the Jiwasrya corruption case. However, in this case Heru was found guilty of committing a criminal act of corruption.
"Based on these considerations, even though he is guilty, because the defendant has been sentenced to life, the sentence imposed in the a quo case is nil," said Eko.
However, Heru Hidayat was given additional sanctions. He must pay a fine of around Rp. 12 trillion.
"Issued an additional penalty against the defendant to pay compensation to the state in the amount of Rp. 12,643,400,946,226," said Eko.
With this null verdict, it means that the criminal sentence received by Heru Hidayat is lower than the demands of the Public Prosecutor (JPU) who demanded the death penalty.
Meanwhile, the Public Prosecutor of the Attorney General's Office (Kejagung) has demanded the death penalty for Asabri's alleged corruption case, Heru Hidayat.
Prosecutors believe that Heru, together with a number of other parties, have been involved in corruption in the management of PT Asabri (Persero) funds, which caused a loss to state finances of around Rp. 22.78 trillion.
