The Omicron Variant COVID-19 Cases Increase, Jokowi: Don't Go Abroad If It's Not Urgent!
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) reminded all parties not to travel abroad amidst the onslaught of the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus. He asked anyone who has no urgent interest to postpone travel abroad.
"I ask not to travel abroad unless there are important and urgent matters," Jokowi said in a video description posted on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Tuesday, January 18.
In addition, Jokowi also asked the public to reduce activities in crowded centers if there is no need. Meanwhile, workers should work from home if possible.
"And for those who can work from home, work from home, do work from home," said the former Governor of DKI Jakarta.
Jokowi asked the public not to panic in the face of the Omicron variant which made the trend of COVID-19 cases increase.
Moreover, the Omicron variant of COVID-19, from the results of a number of studies including those issued by the World Health Organization (WHO), has milder symptoms even though it is more easily transmitted.
"But once again we have to be vigilant, don't get carried away, and be rash," said Jokowi.
Not only that, he also reminded all parties to be disciplined in implementing health protocols with discipline. "I will never get tired of reminding you to always wear a mask, keep your distance, and don't forget to wash your hands," he said.
"The point is, follow the health protocols with discipline," said Jokowi.
