Central Java Police Reveals 2 Online Arisan Scams, Losing Billions Of Rupiah To Victims
SEMARANG - The Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of the Central Java Police revealed two criminal acts of fraud with the online social gathering mode in Semarang City and Demak Regency which cost victims up to billions of rupiah.
The Director of the Special Criminal Investigation at the Central Java Police, Kombes Johanson Ronald Simamora, said that the two perpetrators, each of whom were social gathering dealers, had been named suspects.
During the disclosure in Demak Regency, the police arrested TVL, which is an arisan dealer with 169 victims.
"For this perpetrator, the victims are from various regions in Indonesia with losses ranging from Rp. 1 million to Rp. 1 billion," he said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, January 18.
According to him, the total loss suffered by the victims of this online social gathering reached Rp3 billion.
As for the disclosure in the city of Semarang, he said, officers arrested an arisan dealer with the initials IN.
From the social gathering controlled by IN, there were 14 victims whose total losses reached Rp. 1 billion.
"The two arisan modes are the same, promising a certain amount of money for the arisan participants, but when they are due, they are not paid," he said.
The two perpetrators were further charged with Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions.
