Prosecutor Cecar Azis Syamsuddin On His Communication With Former KPK Investigators

JAKARTA - The KPK Public Prosecutor (JPU) Heradian Salipi questioned the former Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI from the Golkar Party faction Azis Syamsuddin regarding his communication with former KPK investigator Stepanus Robin Pattuju using the "Signal" application.

"Did the defendant communicate with Robin after meeting Robin?" Heradian at the Jakarta Corruption Court (Tipikor), Monday, January 17.

"He tried but I rarely answered, used to say happy birthday, how are you," replied Azis.

"Communication through what?" asked Prosecutor Heradian.

"Through 'mobile'," replied Azis.

"Where did Robin get the defendant's number?" asked the prosecutor again.

"From a business card. I did not physically give a business card, maybe he got it from an aide or Agus Supriyadi," said Azis.

"What application did you communicate with?" asked the prosecutor.

"I don't remember," Azis replied.

"Is there a defendant communicating via Signal with Robin?" said Heradian.

"Not with Robin," said Azis.

"Because Robin was there yesterday explaining how to use the Signal application to communicate with you. What was the defendant's answer?" asked the prosecutor.

"That's why I didn't answer his communication," said Azis.

"So there's a message coming in?" asked the prosecutor.

"Come in," Aziz replied.

"When did the defendant use the Signal application? Since the communication with Robin or before?" asked the prosecutor.

"It's been there long before," replied Azis.

"The Signal application does the defendant know the difference with WhatsApp?" asked the prosecutor.

"It's in the IT book, sir," said Azis.

"To your knowledge what I asked?" asked the prosecutor Heradian.

"Yes, you read in IT books," said Azis again.

"Yes, the defendant, did you know that Signal had some kind of automatic deletion of chat? Did the defendant know that?" asked the prosecutor.

"All applications can be deleted, sir. You learned that applications can be deleted automatically too," replied Azis.

"Has the defendant's cellphone number ever changed?" asked the prosecutor.

"Since I have a cellphone in 1994, it has never changed, basically the first cellphone entered in Indonesia, I have it," said Azis.

"When was the last communication with Robin?" asked the prosecutor.

"I don't remember. I didn't communicate with Robin," said Azis.

"The communication does not have to be by voice, it can also be via 'chat'," said Prosecutor Heradian.

"The communication means there is a response from me," Azis replied.

"When did Robin last chat?" asked the prosecutor.

"When it comes to 'chat', I don't remember exactly because I have never answered someone who has no interest in my duties and authorities," said Azis.
