Earthquake With A Magnitude Of 5.4 Shakes Sukabumi And Surrounding Areas
JAKARTA - Sukabumi Regency, West Java and its surroundings were rocked by a tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 on Monday, January 17 at 07.25.58 WIB, located in the sea at a depth of 42 km.
"The results of the BMKG analysis show that this earthquake has an updated parameter with a magnitude of 5.2," said the Head of the BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Center, Bambang Setiyo Prayitno, in a statement received in Jakarta.
The earthquake was a shallow earthquake due to deformation in the subduction zone. The results of the analysis of the source mechanism show that the earthquake has a thrust fault mechanism.
Earthquake shocks were felt in the Bayah, Pandeglang, Cikeusik, Panimbang areas with an intensity scale of III MMI where the vibrations were felt in the house and felt as if a truck was passing. In the areas of Cikembar, Cireunghas, Pelabuhan Ratu, Sumur, Bogor, West Jakarta, South Jakarta, Obesity with an intensity scale of II – III MMI, that is, the vibration is felt real in the house. Feels the vibration as if the truck is passing.
So far, there have been no reports of damage caused by the earthquake. The modeling results show that the earthquake has no potential for a tsunami.
As of 07.42 WIB, the results of BMKG monitoring showed that there was one aftershock activity with a magnitude of 3.9.
"The public is advised to remain calm, ensure that official information only comes from the BMKG which is distributed through official communication channels," said Bambang.
