Why A Trump Victory Would Be In Vain For A US Thirsty For Change

JAKARTA - Without experience in the world of politics, Donald Trump succeeded in occupying the presidency of the United States (US) in 2016. It does not mean smooth. Many of Trump's policies are controversial and feel unreasonable for many people. In 2019, Trump was even impeached. If he is re-elected later, Trump will be the first president to be impeached, but managed to rule for two terms.

The COVID-19 pandemic has become an arena for Trump to throw controversial things. Trump rejects the use of masks in public. He also forced economic activities and schools to open immediately, even though the cases of COVID-19 in the US were the highest in the world.

In fact, during the Republican National Convention, most of the people who attended did not wear masks and did not test for COVID-19. Trump blames everything on China. Not only about COVID-19. Trump maintains a bad relationship between the US and China through a trade war and an act of driving out ambassadors.

All of the problems above are still minor compared to other problems. Now, the question is what program will he offer when he returns to office? Unfortunately, Trump did not promise anything new. During the Republican National Convention, Trump promised yet again peace and rule of law. For the rest, Trump spent speech time accusing his rival, Joe Biden, of being left radical.

"Biden's record is more embarrassing than the treachery and the most terrible mistake of our lives," Trump said. "He's spent his entire career on the wrong side of history."

Trump warned the US public that Biden would raise taxes and encourage more undocumented migration. Trump also said that Biden would free criminals in the streets and confiscate weapons.

"If Joe Biden doesn't have the power to fight wild-eyed Marxists like Bernie Sanders and his fellow radicals, then how can he defend you?" said Trump.

Repeated promises

According to the BBC, four years ago, in a convention address, Trump promised that "the crimes and violence that befall the nation will end soon." In his inaugural address, Trump also said "the massacre in America will stop here and stop right now (his reign)."

However, nevertheless, crime and violence in the US are increasing in several cities. The protests over police brutality only got worse. Trump blames the situation on the Democrats in the state. He added that voters can send a message by re-electing Trump.

"Your vote will decide whether we protect law-abiding Americans, or whether we give freedom to anarchists, agitators and criminals who commit violence that threatens our citizens," Trump said.

"And these elections will decide whether we will defend the American way of life, or whether we allow the radical movement to completely dismantle and destroy it," he added.

Economic revival

On the other hand, Trump is considered economically capable. The US is currently in the midst of a record-breaking recession. This is indicated by the number of unemployed people who are in double digits and declining consumer confidence.

Trump and Republicans were quick to praise his hard work to restore the US economy. The stock market has once again reached new heights and business buying has bounced back. Opinion polls show Trump still getting his best score on handling the economy.

The main focus of the Republican National Convention appears to be to remind Americans of the economic achievements that came before the pandemic. They cited the 2017 tax cut law, the renegotiation of trade deals with Canada, Mexico and South Korea, and the lowest unemployment rates that Trump claimed were possible.

Republicans stressed that all was well in the early three years of the Trump administration. So, Trump can make them good again. "In our new term as president, we will rebuild the largest economy in history again, return to full employment immediately, soaring incomes and record prosperity," Trump said.

If you imagine what happens if Trump returns to become US President, the answer is that everything will be the same. Trump will do the same thing, enforce the same rules, and the same attitude. Because like the phrase Trump once said: I prefer to come to work every day and see what develops.
