Cybersecurity Becomes BSSN's Challenge In The Digitalization Of Indonesia

JAKARTA - Head of the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) Hinsa Siburian sees the cyber world as very important to be managed from various sectors. Moreover, maintaining the data sovereignty of the Indonesian people from the threat of cyber attacks.

"The big challenge for this country in facing the world of digitalization, the problems that occur in the cyber realm are related to the security and welfare of the country," said Hinsa Siburian, as quoted from his written statement, Friday, August 28.

He explained that the vision and mission of BSSN is to maintain cybersecurity effectively and efficiently. Therefore, according to him, ecosystem awareness of cybersecurity and data sovereignty is very important to continue to be improved.

On the other hand, BSSN is collaborating with Huawei Indonesia and the Big Data and AI Association (ABDI) to manage the digitalization of cloud-based national data. Discussions also focused on the security sector and data confidentiality.

Companies are deemed necessary to continue investing in expertise and governance tools in the security sector in order to build the knowledge base needed to keep abreast of any technological developments and innovations in the cloud.

"Huawei is committed to supporting data sovereignty in all countries, including Indonesia. Globally, Huawei has invested in the cloud for more than 12 years," said CEO of Huawei Indonesia, Jacky Chen.

Huawei believes that the development of a strong ICT infrastructure ecosystem in Indonesia can support the acceleration of National Digitalization, towards a smart and connected Indonesia.

Meanwhile, to realize the sovereignty and prosperity of cyberspace, the Director of Digital Economy Protection of BSSN, Anton Setiyawan, sees the need for collaboration, innovation and independence which are the principles of building technology, infrastructure, regulations and human resources.

"Cooperation with the international community is still needed to take advantage of technology developed by global players such as Huawei, but by continuing to encourage the growth of the domestic industry so that cybersecurity can be easily applied," said Anton.

Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic is expected to be a stepping stone for the Indonesian people to make efforts to accelerate digital transformation.

In connection with these efforts, Expert Staff for Legal Affairs, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of Indonesia, Henri Subiakto, said that the government is accelerating access expansion and enhancement of digital infrastructure as well as the provision of internet services.

Not only that, the government has also prepared a digital transformation road map in strategic sectors, both in the government sector, public services, social assistance, education, health, trade, industry, and broadcasting.

"The government is also accelerating the integration of national data, preparing the needs for digital human resources talent, and preparing funding and financing schemes related to regulations as quickly as possible," said Henri.

The discussion, which was attended by around 900 participants, agreed that the need for cybersecurity is one of the main foundations in a digital transformation journey that requires support from all stakeholders.
