Labor Holds Demo In Front Of DPR Rejects Omnibus Law, Calls For 'Arrest Bahlil' Echoes

JAKARTA - Hundreds of workers who are members of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) demonstrate in front of the DPR RI building, Jalan Gatot Subroto, Jakarta, Friday, January 14.

This demonstration aims to reject the Omnibus Law on the Job Creation Act (Ciptaker), which is still running. In their demands for action, the masses also mentioned the issue of extending the term of office of the president.

In his speech, KSPI President Said Iqbal regretted the statement by the Investment Minister/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia who claimed that businessmen wanted the 2024 presidential election to be postponed as an effort to recover the economy due to the pandemic.

Because according to Said, if the presidential election is postponed, the term of office of the president will be extended. Automatically the term of office of ministers and the DPR was also extended. This, said Said, is certainly not in accordance with democracy.

Said assessed that Bahlil had violated the law for his statement. KSPI also called for the arrest of Minister Bahli.

"Arrest Bahlil, arrest Bahlil," said Said Iqbal from the command car.

In addition to KSPI, this demonstration was also attended by the Indonesian People's Organization (ORI), the Confederation of Indonesian Workers' Struggle (KPBI), the Indonesian Peasant Union (SPI), JALA PRT, Migrant Workers, Urban Poor Consortium, teachers and honorary staff, and the women's organization BELIEVE. and dozens of trade unions at the national level.
