Synopsis Virgin The Series, Raise Youth Anxiety In The Digital Age
JAKARTA - The film Virgin: When Virginity is Questioned was once popular when it was released in theaters 17 years ago. This film tells the story of the friendship of three young women and the problems they face. Today, the Virgin story will be resurrected in the spin-off Virgin The Series that premieres on Disney+ Hotstar starting January 14, 2022.
The series tells the story of a popular girl at school who mysteriously dies shortly after her 17th birthday party. A student named Talita (played by Adhisty Zara) uses this opportunity to make a documentary that can help her get the scholarship she wants.
Working with her friends, Talita's investigation reveals an unexpected fact, which plunges them into a terrifying world, where predators are looking for young girls to become victims.
The 10-episode series, directed by Monty Tiwa, will tell a story about youth anxiety that is closely related to the daily life of today's young generation, as revealed by Adhisty Zara who plays Talita.
"This is about the anxiety of teenagers in the digital era," Zara said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, January 14.
The original film, starring Laudya Cynthia Bella, Ardina Rasti and Anggia Yulia Angely, was the highest-grossing film of its time, receiving eight nominations at the 2005 Indonesian Film Festival.
This time, the teenager who has lived in the digital era is played by Zara as Talita who is smart, ambitious and comes from a troubled family, Shaloom Razade plays the empathetic Bee and becomes the "mother" figure in the group, Arla Ailani plays Keke who becomes a popular girl. at school, but is actually a victim of abuse at home.
The series also stars Lutesha, Laura Theux, Alzi Makers as Hiro, Panji Zoni as Faris and Winky Wiryawan as Lukman Senjaya, Nova Eliza, Asty Ananta, Rizky Hanggono, and Della Dartyan.
The cast shared stories about memorable moments in the shooting process of the series. Just like shooting serials or feature films that occurred after the corona virus outbreak hit the world, they also had to adapt to health protocols to changes in location due to activity restrictions.
"Fortunately everything is compact," said Panji, recalling the shooting process which was more challenging from a technical point of view.
Meanwhile, Alzi said that the shooting location felt like a fun playground and he really enjoyed all the moments, including the experience to explore his character.
"The story is also exciting, thriller coupled with drama," said Alzi.
For Winky, the freedom given by director Monty Tiwa is an unforgettable experience. Monty provides a large space, such as a theater, for Winky to explore the character of Lukman.
"We will arrange the blocking ourselves, later the DOP (director of photography) will follow," said Winky, adding that the production of this series was an interesting experience.
The director also gave the same flexibility to the young players who were released to build their own characters. But Monty has other "duties" for the three young actresses who play teenagers in the series.
According to Shaloom, the daughter of actress Wulan Guritno, Monty Tiwa gave them homework to spend time together to build intimacy. "We were told to go with Mr. Monty," he said.
