Inaugurate InJourney, Jokowi Reminds Not To Just Emerge New Commotions
JAKARTA - The Tourism and Supporting BUMN Holding (InJourney) has just been inaugurated. President Joko Widodo reminded that holdings must make governance more efficient and simpler. He didn't want to create a new mess with the formation of the holding.
"Don't let new problems arise, or move old problems to form new problems. The key to moving forward is improving management, improving governance because tourism potential is still wide open," he said at the inauguration ceremony for Holding BUMN Tourism and Supporters', quoted from the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube account, Thursday, January 13.
Jokowi also asked that the obstacles that hinder the progress of the tourism sector must be resolved immediately. Such as connectivity problems, as well as infrastructure barriers.
"Where are the points that require infrastructure injections to be resolved immediately. As well as other obstacles, including in terms of governance and management of tourism SOEs, so that this does not erode our opportunity to jump forward," he said.
With the establishment of the Tourism and Supporting BUMN Holding, Jokowi hopes that tourism management can be carried out efficiently, integrated from upstream to downstream. Moreover, the potential of Indonesia's domestic market is enormous, reaching 330 million trips.
"Starting from structuring flight routes, promotional content, events, attractions, culinary, accommodation to retail sales of souvenirs from our crafters, which of course have also been well selected," he said.
Jokowi admitted that in the last two years the tourism sector had been hit and experienced a deep contraction. In fact, before the pandemic, the sector was the second largest foreign exchange contributor with a domestic income (GDP) of 10 billion US dollars and could provide 13 million jobs.
"We have to face conditions like this and we must not give up, and we must use this as a turning point to make a leap. Momentum for restructuring, momentum for transformation, building a stronger and more resilient ecosystem," he said.
