Metro Police Reveal Illegal Cigarette Trading In Jabodetabek

JAKARTA - The Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimsus) of the Polda Metro Jaya has arrested two suspected illegal cigarette sellers. Where, the cigarettes are not equipped with excise stamps.

"It is a crime to trade and trade cigarettes without a permit," said the Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya Kombes E. Zulpan to reporters, Thursday, January 13.

The two suspects had the initials AM (25) and KAN (50). They were arrested in two locations and based on different police reports (LP).

The suspect AM was arrested in the Cibubur area, East Jakarta, on January 6. He sells illegal cigarettes online.

"His role here is to sell cigarettes online and then have been doing this activity for approximately 6 months," said Zulpan.

Meanwhile, the suspect KAN was arrested in Sumberjaya Village, Tambun Selatan District, Bekasi, on January 12. He played a role in buying illegal cigarettes from someone in Pamekasan, East Java.

"They are traded to shops or stalls in the Greater Jakarta area," said Zulpan.

In this case, the police confiscated 450,000 illegal cigarettes or the equivalent of 30 thousand packs. Where, causing state losses of Rp. 750 million.

The suspects were also charged with Article 56 of Law No. 39 of 2007 concerning amendments to Law No. 11 of 1995 concerning Excise. They are threatened with imprisonment for a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 5 years and a fine of at least 2 times the value of excise duty and at most or a maximum of 10 times the value of excise.
