The Confession Of Lacuna Coil Who Had Difficulty Writing The Black Anima Album

JAKARTA - One of the bands that will enliven the biggest metal music festival in Southeast Asia, Hammersonic next year, Lacuna Coil reveals the secret about their difficulty in writing the Black Anima album.

In an interview with Genre Is Dead! Magazine, vocalist Cristina Scabbia said, since the beginning of their work, they had no intention of making a conceptual album.

"At first, we had a lot of ideas but we didn't focus on one big picture, so that's the problem," explained Scabbia. Launch Blabbermouth, Sunday, December 29.

"When you have too many things to say there is the risk of saying something confusing. At first, we struggled to start the songwriting process," he continued.

Marco Coti Zelati (bass) who became the producer and main writer of the album, continued the vocalist, could not really put the music where he wanted. He was worried because at that time he had no inspiration at all.

The personnel then hold a meeting where each of them brings a lot of images or anything that can be visually inspiring. Marco drew inspiration from films and video games because he wanted to write a soundtrack to the image he saw.

"The inspiration started flowing very easily when we finally focused on what we wanted to say. Then Andrea (Ferro, Lacuna Coil co-vocalist) and I wrote the vocals and the lyrics, then Marco put the music in and sent it back to us, but all the songs independent of one another, it's not a conceptual album, "explained Scabbia.

"It's definitely a story and we recommend listening to this album from start to finish. Take an hour of your day to enjoy it. It's very dynamic and every song on this album makes a lot of sense. It takes you through a lot of different moods."

During a recent North American tour, Lacuna Coil promoted Black Anima by performing their first two singles; Layers Of Time and Reckless. The songs are accompanied by a music video directed by Roberto Cinardi (aka SaKu), a collaborator who previously worked on the short film Lacuna Coil, Dark Passengers (2012).

Of course, it will be interesting if we watch Scabbia and friends perform these songs at next year's Hammersonic Festival. This metal folk music party will be held at Carnaval Beach Ancol, North Jakarta for two days on March 27-28.
