China Plans To Boost Digital Economy With Adoption Of 6G Technology And Big Data Centers

JAKARTA - The Chinese Communist government's cabinet issued plans on Wednesday, January 12 for the development of the country's digital economy. The plan aims to increase the digital sector's share of national GDP by encouraging technologies such as 6G and big data centers.

The State Council set several targets for 2025, namely increasing the share of the digital economy to the national GDP from 7.8% in 2020 to 10% in 2025.

Other targets include accelerating the construction of big data centers and increasing the number of gigabit broadband users, the fastest connection speed available, from 6.4 million in 2020 to 60 million in 2025.

The State Council also pointed to structural problems in China's digital economy that need to be taken more seriously.

“China's development of digital economy also faces several problems and challenges: lack of innovation capacity in key areas...data resources are huge, but their potential has not been fully released; the digital economy governance system needs to be further improved as planned..." said a source at the State Council as quoted by Reuters.
