Alice In Chains Guitarist Jerry Cantrell Releases Performance Video Of Brighten Album's Main Song

JAKARTA - Alice In Chains guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell shared a performance video of Brighten's song, which was taken from his new solo album of the same title.

The video was directed by Sebastien Paquet and Kevin Garcia and recorded in November 2021 at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles as part of the Brighten album launch event.

Many of the musicians who took part in this album performed with Jerry, including Tyler Bates ("300", "John Wick"), Greg Puciato and Gil Sharone (The Dilinger Escape Plan), George Adrian, Vincent Jones and Michael Rozon.

Since its release, Brighten has received acclaim from music critics, including Kerrang! magazine, who called it "a lively contemporary self-portrait of one of hard rock's most distinctive voices. A long-awaited show of individual brilliance."

Meanwhile, Classic Rock magazine declared it "the best work of a happy songwriter in her life, spanning a wide range of styles."

Then, The Sun commented: "A rich organic album...Brighten is brilliant."

Brighten is Jerry's first project without Alice In Chains in 19 years. Produced by Jerry with film composers Tyler Bates and Paul Fig, work on this album began just before the pandemic hit.

In this album, appear famous names in the world of rock music. Call it Duff McKagan (Guns N' Roses) on certain bass tracks, Puciato contributes on backing vocals and drummers Sharone and Abe Laboriel, Jr. (Paul McCartney). Meanwhile Joe Barresi (TOOL, Queens Of The Stone Age) was in charge of the mixing department.

To support the release of Brighten, Jerry has announced a United States tour that will take him to cities such as New York, LA, Chicago, Boston, Nashville and Vegas, among many others.

A few years ago, Jerry played a pair of sold-out solo shows in Los Angeles. The show features a group of musicians and Jerry's friends, some of whom appear in Brighten.

"It was great fun playing songs that I haven't brought from the album Boggy Depot and Degradation Trip," said Jerry, quoted from Blabbermouth, Thursday, January 13.

"Tyler Bates not only introduced me to a lot of cool performers, he also helped me put the band together for shows, and perform with me," he continued.

In short, the forerunner of the Brighten album emerged from that show.

"It was like a '70s record where a lot of musicians played," Cantrell smiled. "So it's not a band. I have to make music with a group of people I've never had before, as well as with friends like Duff, Tyler and Gil who I've worked with before."
