Head of the Agriculture and Food Service of North Aceh Regency, Erwandi, said that the assistance of 150 kilograms of rice seeds was given to 30 farmers who were victims of the flood last week.
"This assistance aims to ease the burden on rice farmers who experienced the flood natural disaster that hit North Aceh last week," Erwandi said in North Aceh, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, January 12.
Erwandi said the rice seed assistance was given in stages in every sub-district affected by the flood. The assistance is a form of the presence of the North Aceh Regency Government.
"We hope that this rice seed assistance will be useful for farmers. Moreover, many farmers have suffered losses after their fields were flooded," said Erwandi.
Erwandi said the flooding caused by heavy rains and the overflow of a number of rivers in North Aceh Regency caused 2,802 hectares of rice fields to be flooded.
Erwandi said that of the 2,802 hectares of rice fields submerged by the flood, 43 hectares of them have been confirmed as crop failures or puso.
"Thousands of hectares of flooded rice fields are spread across 13 sub-districts in North Aceh Regency. An area of 43 hectares of them is crop failure or puso," said Erwandi. still recording in the field.
"Potential damage or puso occurs if the puddles soak for more than three days. Because the rice stalks will tend to be damaged and rot," said Erwandi.
Erwandi said the age of rice in the flooded rice fields varied because rice planting in North Aceh Regency was not simultaneous.
"The age of rice varies, starting from planting to entering the harvest season. The schedule for planting is not simultaneous. For losses, data collection is still in progress," said Erwandi.
