Coordinating Minister For Human Development And Culture Appreciates Prosecutors Proves Herry Wirawan Rape Dozens Of Students With Death Penalty
JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy appreciates the public prosecutor's demands against Herry Wirawan, a defendant in an immoral case against 13 female students.
"So, basically, we appreciate the quick, concrete steps taken by law enforcement officials professionally. I think law enforcement has absorbed the aspirations that have developed in the community," said Muhadjir, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, January 12.
Muhadjir hopes that the verdict against the defendant can provide a deterrent effect so that similar incidents do not happen again in the future.
"What is more important is how the verdict will really have a deterrent effect," said Muhadjir.
Previously, the defendant in the case of raping 13 female students, Herry Wirawan (36), was required to be sentenced to death by the West Java High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati).
Head of the West Java Prosecutor's Office, Asep N. Mulyana, said that the demand for the death penalty was against Herry Wirawan for his immoral acts that caused the victims to become pregnant. This is considered a very serious crime.
"Demanding the defendant with the death penalty. As evidence, as our commitment to provide a deterrent effect to the perpetrators," said Asep.
According to him, the consideration of the death penalty was due to Herry's crimes against his foster children when he had the position or power as the owner of the Islamic boarding school.
Asep assessed that the defendant's actions did not only affect the physical honor, but also had an effect on the psychological and emotional aspects of the students as a whole.
Herry also used religious and educational symbols to carry out his actions.
In addition, Herry is also required to pay a fine of Rp. 500 million and is required to pay restitution to the victims of Rp. 331 million.
"We also ask the judge to impose an additional sentence in the form of an identity announcement. The identity of the accused is disseminated and additional prosecution is in the form of chemical castration," said Asep.
