Meeting Menpora, IBL Managing Director Conveys Preparations For FIBA Asia 2022
JAKARTA – Preparations for the FIBA Asia 2022 basketball competition continue to be carried out. In the middle of this year, the event will be held in Indonesia.
President Director of the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) Junas Miradiarsyah had an audience with the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) on Tuesday, January 11, to discuss the preparations.
"FIBA Asia 2022 will be held in Senayan from 12 to 24 July. So, FIBA has decided to name it FIBA Asia 2022," Junas said in a written statement received by VOI.
Junas, who carries out the duties of the Chairperson of the FIBA Asia 2022 Organizing Committee, was present at the Menpora office with IBL Senior Competition Manager Rufiana and the Secretary General of the Central Management of the Indonesian Basketball Association (PP Perbasi) Nirmala Dewi.
The FIBA Asia 2022 event was supposed to be held in August 2021. However, the COCID-19 pandemic forced the event to be postponed.
This year's implementation will run following health protocols because the pandemic situation has not yet improved. Lodging and accommodation will use a bubble system (bubble).
"On the field we will use only one side. So, the committee and players on the other side have spectators on the opposite side. The point is to stick to strict health protocols," said Junas.
The teams that will compete in the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup in Jakarta are Australia, Bahrain, China, Taiwan, India, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Lebanon, New Zealand, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and host. Indonesian house.
Indonesia is the first team to lock up a place in the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup thanks to its status as the host of the competition. While the other 12 teams were taken from the top two teams from each qualifying group.
Chinese Taipei, India and Saudi Arabia were the last three teams to qualify through the qualifying tournament for the third-placed team which was held last August.
