O Yeong Su Wins 2022 Golden Globe, South Korean President Congratulates
JAKARTA - O Yeong Su became the first Korean actor to win the 2022 Golden Globe for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television category thanks to the Squid Game series.
This great achievement was also appreciated by the President of South Korea, Moon Jae In. Launching the Korea Herald, he said that O Yeong Su's career journey has received a good impression from the world.
"(O Yeong Su's) acting journey of more than half a century crossed cultural boundaries, creating a great emotional impression," said Moon Jae In on Monday, January 10.
“I want to pay my respects and thanks to actor O Yeong Su who is known as Grandpa Gganbu,” he said.
Moon Jae In also congratulated director Hwang Dong Hyuk and the Squid Game series.
“The message that Squid Game delivered. Beyond that, Squid Game tells the extreme game between winners and losers. But there is a hidden message, which is a story of not losing hope and humanity," said Moon Jae In.
"I want to applaud director Hwang Dong Hyuk and the production crew who made us proud, as well as actor Lee Jung Jae who gave his best performance," he said.
Apart from Moon Jae In, actor Lee Jung Jae also congratulated him on Instagram. He wrote, "Teacher Il Nam, congratulations. All the scenes made with you are honors. Starting from being your ganganbu."
O Yeong Su received an award for his role as Oh Il Nam in the Squid Game series that aired in 2021. Oh Il Nam is told as a grandfather who plays the Squid Game with Seong Gi Hun (Lee Jung Jae) and Cho Sang Woo (Park Hae Soo ). Oh Il Nam got 0001 when he joined the game.
Of course, this victory is a big achievement for O Yeong Su in acting. In addition to the Golden Globe, he also won the 1994 Baeksang Arts Awards and received an award from the South Korean Government in 2019.
