There Was A Gorillaz Influence On Rich Brian's Mini Album, 1999

JAKARTA - Rapper Rich Brian released a mini album (EP) titled 1999. This album was released via 88Rising and distributed by 12Tone Music LLC.

"This project has a song for everyone. One of my favorites is DOA, which basically stands for Dead On Arrival. It sounds unnatural, but it's about competing with someone who has zero chances again in first place," Brian said in the caption. press reported by Antara, Thursday, August 27.

The singer and producer said the melody in the song DOA reminded him of Gorillaz, his favorite group.

"It's a song I always play whenever I want to feel better about my singing, and myself in general," he said.

In addition, there is also the song Sins, which Brian considers his best song.

"This is probably the best song I've ever made. It came from a jam session with me, Jacob Ray and the Diamond Pistols, and then Louis Bell came up very randomly. I've always been a fan of his music even though I've known him for several years now, and that day I worked with him for the first time.

"My friend Natalie, sent me a really cute video one day of her crying and saying how proud she is of me, so I decided to put it at the end of the song because I love Drake and I knew he would be proud of me," she said.

The 1999 album is Rich Brian's first project since The Sailor which launched last year.

A number of single hits were in 1999, namely Don't Care, Love In My Pocket, Sometimes, Long Run, When You Come Home, and of course DOA and Sins.

The album, which was largely Brian's own production, also featured productions by longtime collaborators Bekon & The Donuts, Diamond Pistols, and Louis Bell.

To complement the presence of this album, Rich Brian has released the official music video for Love In My Pocket. The music video was directed by Daniel Cloud.

"This is my favorite music video so far, about how trying to be perfect isn't going to work most of the time," said Rich Brian.
