SMRC Survey: The Majority Of The People Agree The TPKS Bill Is Approved
JAKARTA - The survey institute Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) released the results of a survey related to public opinion on the preparation of the Draft Law (RUU) on the Crime of Sexual Violence (TPKS). As a result, the majority of the public agreed that the TPKS Bill should be ratified immediately.
Initially, SMRC asked the respondent's knowledge of the drafting of the TPKS Bill. The question is whether the response is 'Know or have you heard of the TPKS Bill?'.
"There are as many as 39 percent of the population who know about the drafting of the TPKS Bill," said SMRC Program Manager, Saidiman Ahmad in the SMRC survey release, Monday, January 10. Saidiman revealed that the number of public knowledge of the TPKS Bill has increased. Previously, SMRC noted that the level of public knowledge of the TPKS Bill was 24 percent in March 2021 and 36 percent in May 2021.
Then, as many as 60 percent of respondents who were aware of the TPKS Bill chose to agree that the bill was passed. Saidiman said the figure was relatively stable compared to the previous survey.
"In the last survey, 60 percent of those who knew agreed and this figure is relatively stable compared to the previous survey. In March 2021, 57 percent agreed. In May 2021 it was 64 percent and now it's 60 percent. So it's relatively stable," he explained.
Furthermore, respondents were also asked, 'If you know the TPKS Bill, do you agree or disagree with the President's request to be ratified immediately'. As a result, as many as 65 percent of respondents chose to agree with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi)'s request that the TPKS Bill be immediately ratified. attitude as much as 14 percent," he concluded.
The SMRC survey was conducted on 8-16 December 2021 face-to-face and on 5-7 January 2022 via telephone survey.
The survey involved 2,420 respondents with a response rate of 2,062 or 85 percent of the planned sample. The population was selected randomly by multistage random sampling. The survey's margin of error is +-2.2 percent at the 95 percent confidence level.
Previously, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) hoped that the Bill on the Crime of Sexual Violence (TPKS) would soon be passed. Jokowi wants maximum protection for victims of sexual violence.
