Shallow Earthquake Of 4.5 Magnitude Shakes Tobelo, North Maluku

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that a shallow earthquake measuring 4.5 magnitude had occurred in the Tobelo area, North Maluku.

The epicenter of the earthquake was at coordinates 1.44 north latitude (LU)-127.91 east longitude (BT). The epicenter of the earthquake was 33 km southwest of Tobelo, with a depth of 3 km.

Earthquake vibrations were felt in Tobelo with a scale of III Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI).

According to the BMKG, the Mercalli scale is a unit for measuring the strength of an earthquake, especially if there is no seismometer at the scene.

In scale II, some people feel the vibrations and light objects that are hung sway. While on a scale of III, the vibration is felt real in the house and the vibration feels as if a truck is passing.

On a scale of IV, the earthquake was felt by many people inside the house, outside the house, and was marked by, among other things, windows or doors creaking and walls rattling.

On a scale of V, almost everyone feels the vibrations, characterized by objects bouncing, poles and large objects shaking.
