Inspired By A Painting Entitled Pasar Malam, DJ Stroo Meets Alex Kuple To Release Street Carnival

JAKARTA - DJ Stroo and jazz bassist Alex Kuple worked together to produce a new work entitled Street Carnival. The idea for this song was inspired by a painting.

The story begins when DJ Stroo asks his old friend, Nugrahanto Widodo (Totok) - a painter who graduated from ISI Jogjakarta - to create a painting that can be used as artwork to support his new music production.

From there, a painting called Pasar Rakyat was born which apparently prompted DJ Stroo to compose a song with the same theme. According to him, the theme fits the current pandemic conditions.

"During the pandemic, many people cannot leave their homes, or cannot experience the excitement of low-cost entertainment such as the people's market," explained DJ Stroo in his official statement.

"Actually, before the pandemic, people's markets were often held in every region, even in all corners of the world. Longing for this kind of cheap entertainment atmosphere was what inspired the creation of this song," he continued.

After the basic idea for the song was created, DJ Stroo contacted Alex Kuple to collaborate. Initially, DJ Stroo offered a concept with the deep house genre, but then it shifted to a lounge music character that still presented the aura of dance music.

“Not only electronic dance, but there are also elements of jazz fusion, latin percussion to Cuban jazz from my bass playing. The nuances are more diverse and lively,” said Alex Kuple, who also handled the mixing and mastering of this song.

Street Carnival is the opening of a series of other singles that have been prepared by DJ Stroo or Alex Kuple in 2022.
