Sweden's Crown Princess Positive For COVID-19: Ever Infected, Completely Vaccinated, Experiencing Flu Symptoms
JAKARTA - Sweden's Crown Princess Victoria has tested positive for COVID-19 and is experiencing mild symptoms, the Royal Court said on Saturday, adding that the heir to the throne had been fully vaccinated.
Earlier this week his parents, Sweden's king and queen, both also tested positive amid an escalation in a fourth wave of the virus, driven by the highly contagious Omicron variant, which has seen the country repeatedly report record number of daily cases.
The Royal Court said in a statement the crown princess, who is 44 years old and has contracted the coronavirus before, is self-isolating at home with her family.
It is known, along with her husband Prince Daniel, Princess Victoria tested positive for COVID-19 in March last year.
"The crown princess, who is fully vaccinated, has flu-like symptoms but otherwise feels well. Contact tracing has begun," the court said, citing Reuters Jan. 8.
While COVID infections have surged, hospitalizations have also risen sharply and put pressure on the health care system, but remain well below the peaks encountered in the previous wave. Deaths have so far remained relatively low.
As previously reported, Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia have tested positive for COVID-19, the Palace said in a statement on Tuesday, amid rising infections in the Nordic country driven by a new variant of the Omicron virus.
"The King and Queen, who were fully vaccinated with three injections, have mild symptoms and are feeling well, given their circumstances," the palace said in a statement.
The palace said the 75-year-old king and 78-year-old queen were self-isolating and work to track down those they had contact with was ongoing.
